When Bollywood actresses romanced younger heroes

B-town superstars like Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan have hit 50 but continue to romance actresses who are half their age. While actresses romancing younger actors was a taboo in the industry, many new-age divas like Katrina Kaif who will be romancing Sidharth Malhotra in Baar Baar Dekho, are becoming trend-changers. The reverse trend is slowly crawling in and it’s for good.

Rani Mukerji in Dil Bole Hadippa and Aiyya

It came as a surprise when Rani Mukerji was cast opposite Shahid Kapoor who is three years younger in the 2009 film Dil Bole Hadippa. Though the film had a decent plot, the couple’s on-screen chemistry didn’t work well.
She was also seen romancing Prithviraj in Aiyya. He is five years younger to her and once again, the film didn’t perform well at the box office. Uh-oh!

Katrina Kaif in Fitoor and Baar Baar Dekho

We saw Katrina Kaif romance Aditya Roy Kapur in her last release, Fitoor. Though the film didn’t reach up to box-office expectations, their chemistry was much talked about. They sure did set the screen on fire. Aditya is two years younger to Katrina but this didn’t affect their on-screen charm. That’s not all! Katrina has been cast opposite Sidharth Malhotra in Baar Baar Dekho and we just can’t wait to watch them romance one another!

Kareena Kapoor Khan in Ki and Ka, Ek Mein Aur Ek Tu and Gori Tere Pyaar Mein

We saw her play a charismatic working woman in Ki and Ka who falls in love with Arjun Kapoor. While the couple wowed us with their sizzling romance in the film, not many realized that Arjun is five years younger than Kareena. But age is never a bar right?
She also romanced Imran Khan in Ek Mein Aur Ek Tu and Gori Tere Pyaar Mein. He is two years younger than the diva.

Priyanka Chopra in Gunday

Not just one, Priyanka Chopra romanced two younger actors in Gunday. With both Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh playing her love interests, it wasn’t very evident at the first go that both these actors are younger than Priyanka. Well, we loved the trio and PC’s chemistry with both the hunks.

Vidya Balan in Kismat Konnection and Bobby Jasoos

Kismat Konnection featured Vidya Balan opposite Shahid Kapoor who is three years younger than her. The film wasn’t a hit perhaps because the age difference between the duo was quite obvious. However, this doesn’t change the fact that both Vidya and Shahid are amazing actors. Agree?

In Bobby Jasoos, she romanced Ali Fazal who is ten years younger to her. Though it wasn’t suppose to be a romantic film, they made for a mushy couple and complimented each other pretty well.

Konkana Sen Sharma in Wake up Sid

Here’s an unexpected duo which was totally convincing on screen. Konkana is around three years older than Ranbir Kapoor but this difference wasn’t noticeable in the film. In fact, the odd casting worked for the film considering it was the demand of the script. We loved the pairing and the film!

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Guru and Raavan

This real-life couple is adorable in all ways. They were seen romancing in Mani Ratnam’s Guru and we were totally impressed. The love-birds complement each other in every manner. Not many know that Aishwarya is two years older than Abhishek Bachchan. This however doesn’t get noticed because they always look stunning together. Don’t they?

Bipasha Basu in Aa Dekhen Zara ,Bachna Ae Haseeno and Alone

The hottie looks absolutely fab with every actor she works. Be it Neil Nitin Mukesh or Ranbir Kapoor or her real-life hubby Karan Singh Grover. While the age difference between Ranbir and her in Bachna Ae Haseeno wasn’t evident at all, it was quite noticeable in Aa Dekhen Zara when she was cast opposite Neil Nitin Mukesh. Perhaps that’s why the film didn’t work wonders.

Karan is three years younger than Bips but their sizzling hot chemistry in Alone was unbeatable. Even in reality they make for a perfect couple. Don’t you agree?
