Ludhiana: Blaming the state government for the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, particularly in Ludhiana, and alleging that deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal -- who also heads the home portfolio -- had failed to instill a sense of security among residents, Congress MP Ravneet Bittu said Congress, along with other residents, would gherao the city police commissioner's office on May 27 at 10am.
"The citizens will bring along bangles of different shades and sizes given by their mothers and sisters, and hand over the same to the police commissioner for further handing over the same to deputy chief minister and other cabinet ministers of Punjab, in the hope that they would do something for the security of peace-loving citizens, at least out of shame," said Bittu.
Bittu questioned as to how the persons who took away Sri Guru Granth Sahib from village Buraj Jawahar Singh Wala in Punjab eight months ago to create communal disturbance were still not identified. "There was no clue about those who desecrated Sri Guru Granth Sahib at village Bargari in Punjab to ignite communal violence. Those who killed Mata Chand Kaur at the secured Bhaini Sahib Dera to create a rift within the sect were still not arrested. How come the mastermind of the murderous attempt on Sant Ranjeet Singh Ji Dhadrianwale, where one of his accomplices was killed -- to make Sikh groups indulge in violence -- was still unknown to the people? How come the persons who fired at the RSS office at Ludhiana with the intention of provoking communal unrest remain unknown?", he asked.
Accusing the Badal government of indulging in the politics of patronage to anti-social elements, he alleged that those in jails were orchestrating the killings of their opponents in gang wars, and they had the audacity to mock at police personnel by taking credit for the killings through Facebook and other social media sites, he said.
