Aurangabad: DM Kawal Tanuj on Tuesday issued a show-cause notice to civil surgeon Dr Rampratap Singh in connection with the case of humiliation caused to a pregnant woman with HIV. Tanuj has also directed him to take immediate action against the lady doctor concerned. Meanwhile, a three-member team constituted by the district magistrate earlier and headed by senior deputy collector-rank officer Purushottam Paswan to probe the matter, has also submitted its report recommending stern action against the erring doctor.
According to the report, an HIV-positive pregnant woman had gone to sadar hospital on May 16, when the doctor on duty refused to provide treatment to her, saying she might spread the 'disease' to others.

The doctor had claimed there was no facility in the sadar hospital for treatment of HIV-positive persons and safe delivery kit was also not available. On this ground, the woman was referred to some other hospital.Integrated Counselling and Testing Centre (ICTC) in charge medical officer Dr Ravi Ranjan ruled out the possibility of non-availability of medicines.
He said he has apprised the civil surgeon about the facilities available for treatment of HIV-positive persons. A source in ICTC claimed 80 HIV-positive patients were getting medicines from the ICTC.
On the issue of safe delivery kit, health manager Hemant Rajan said all equipments for safe delivery are available at the hospital. Yet, Dr Lalsha never demanded anything.
Additional project director, Bihar Aids Control Society (BACS), has also probed the matter and took written statement of the woman at ANMMCH, Gaya, where she alleged that Dr Lalsha always used to humiliate her whenever she went to the sadar hospital, Aurangabad, for her treatment.
