VICTORIA, BC --(Marketwired - May 24, 2016) - Members of the Professional Employees Association (PEA) have voted in favour of ongoing affiliation to the BC Federation of Labour (BCFED).

"This is a significant step forward for our organization," said PEA Executive Director Scott McCannell. "Never in our 42-year history have we faced a more challenging labour environment with sub-standard wage increases. This decision complements our goals of reaching out to like-minded organizations committed to defending public services in BC."

"I'm pleased to welcome the PEA into the BCFED," said Irene Lanzinger, President of the BCFED. "The PEA will add their voice to our growing organization that is committed to defending public services and advocating for better working conditions and wages for all British Columbians."

The PEA has been unaffiliated since 1974, when the union was formed. PEA members participated in a three-year trial affiliation with the BCFED from 2013-2016.

About the PEA

The Professional Employees Association is a labour union representing 2500 professionals across British Columbia. Members' professions range widely and include engineers, foresters, librarians, lawyers, physiotherapists, teachers and more.
