Transport department officials to connect on Whatsapp for smooth info-flow
NOIDA: Keeping with the use of technology in government functioning, the UP transport department has asked all the regional transport offices to connect on 'Whatsapp'.
In a letter to Additional Transport Commissioner, Deputy Transport Commissioners, Regional Transport Commissioners and Assistant Regional Transport Commissioners (ARTO), Transport Commissioner K Ravindra Naik has asked all the officials to connect via a Whatsapp group for smooth share of information.

In the letter, Naik has written that the purpose of the group is to help insurance companies avail details about driving license holders quickly in case they are facing hassles in receiving the same from respective transport offices.
It notes that there are many such cases of road insurance claims which are pending in various courts of the country where the companies need to access details regarding the license holders.
"In such a case, the insurance company can register a complaint on the Whatsapp group and the ARTO will provide the necessary information without any delay," the letter says.
The Whatsapp group has been formed on 9453202110 and its administer or 'admin' will be Vineet Kumar Tripathi, an official from the National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology.
"It is directed that you all send your mobile numbers, on which Whatsapp can be operated, to Vineet Kumar Tripathi within two days," says the letter dated May 17.

Interestingly, the letter comes after some of the transport officials of various transport offices 'left' the group when their mobile numbers were added on it, sources told TOI. The officials were apparently "unaware" that the group was formed on the order of the transport Commissioner for official purpose.
"It is directed that no transport officer should quit from the group and all the additional, deputy, regional and assistant regional transport officers will ensure that the direction is strictly followed and information is immediately shared," says the letter.
Confirming that the letter has been received, ARTO Rachna Yaduvanshi said," It will make it easier to ensure that in case of an accident claim, the transport offices can help the insurance companies with quick information."
