Actress and former beauty pageant winner Priyanka Chopra told Complex magazine that she would rather play British super spy James Bond herself than be a Bond girl.
The 2001 Miss World pageant winner is the featured interview for the publication’s June/July issue.
“[E]veryone agrees she’d make a great Bond Girl,” Complex reported. ” ‘I get that all the time,’ she says with faux exasperation. ‘But [expletive] that — I wanna be Bond.’ “
She is set to sizzle on the silver screen in next year’s “Baywatch” movie as the beach-bound drama’s villain.
Ms. Chopra, who plays an FBI recruit framed for a terrorist attack in ABC’s “Quantico,” also told the magazine her frustrations with Hollywood typecasting Indian actors.
“There are so many Indian actors who have crossed over, and have done a lot of work in the West, but they’ve always been made to speak like Apu [from “The Simpsons”]. I want to be able to break the stereotype of what Indian people or people of South Asian descent are supposed to be. Nobody’s supposed to be anything. You can be whoever you want. And I want young people to see that.”
