RANCHI: A Jharkhand police constable Ramiz Raja alias Ayan Raza alias Ayan Yadav, in his mid 20s, was arrested on Tuesday for involvement in four theft cases with two friends after police recovered stolen TV, DVD and other valuables, they had stolen from four houses in the city, from their houses. The constable who was recruited in Jharkhand Armed Police 7 in 2011, police said, has accepted his involvement in four theft cases.
City SP Kishore Kaushal said Ramiz Raja had a regular job in the police and was drawing wages and perks like other constables.
“The lure of easy and more money attracted him into criminal activities,” SP said.
The constables of JAP, a special armed police force in the state, are not as much into active policing as district police constables. They are used for the purposes of armed policing including anti-Maoist operations.
The constable’s two other aides are 16-year-old Pawan Sahu (name changed) and Jagdish Sahu, in his 30s, both based in Ranchi. “The two who were involved in criminal activities and are known to the constable for a long time,” a police officer said.
The police came to know about them on the information of Hazaribag police. The Hazaribag Sadar police on May 22 arrested a criminal Mohammad Khurshid who, police found, was friend of 16-year-old boy and Jagdish Sahu. The Hazaribag police passed on the information which led to the arrest of the two. “During interrogation the two revealed the name of the constable and subsequently stolen valuables were found in the houses of the accused,” said a police officer.
The recovered valuables were stolen in March from the house of Swarn Kamal Banerjee and P K Singh, both residents of Gonda police station. An FIR was lodged in this connection after the thefts.
The police have recovered two LCDs, one DVD player, a Canon camera, sliver jewelries and several bronze utensils. Apart from two theft cases of Gonda, the three have accepted involvement in one theft case reported in Kanke and another in Argora.
