Cloud security revenues rose 46% YoY in 1Q16
Akamai Technologies (AKAM) is increasingly developing new services for its customers, as its competitors are now capable of providing content delivery network (or CDN) services at similar prices. Akamai is offering a number of value-added services, including targeted advertising and cloud-based services.
Akamai’s Cloud Security Solutions segment’s revenue rose 46% YoY (year-over-year) in 1Q16 to $81 million. It rose 47% YoY when adjusted for foreign exchange.
The company’s Performance and Security Solutions revenue rose 16% YoY to $316 million in 1Q16. Its Services and Support Solutions revenue also rose 16% YoY to $46 million in 1Q16.
Revenue from the United States rose 2% YoY
Akamai’s revenue from the United States rose 2% YoY to $397 million in 1Q16. The company’s international revenue rose 24% YoY to $70 million in 1Q16. When adjusted for foreign exchange fluctuations, its international revenue rose 27% in the quarter.
Akamai’s Media Division’s revenue fell 1% YoY to $292 million in 1Q16, and its Web Division’s revenue rose 18% YoY to $264 million in 1Q16. Akamai’s Enterprise and Carrier Division’s revenue rose 45% YoY to $12 million in the quarter ended March 31 ,2016.
A strong US dollar (UUP) has impacted the revenues of a number of technology companies, including heavyweights such as Apple (AAPL), IBM (IBM), and Cognizant Technology Solutions (CTSH).
