Man rescued after falling from ship off Cork coast

A person has been rescued from the water off the Cork coast after falling from US ship The Eagle this morning.

Valentia Coastguard received a mayday call reporting a "man overboard" in the sea five miles from Cork Harbour.

Local rescue services were tasked but stood down 10 minutes later after the ship confirmed they had rescued the person and needed no further assistance.

The US Coastguard ship The Eagle was in the area to pay a courtesy call to Ireland.
