Indian Museum to celebrate Buddha Purnima and birth anniversary of B R Ambedkar
KOLKATA: The Indian Museum has decided to celebrate Buddha Purnima and the 125th birth anniversary of B R Ambedkar, who was a Buddhist, by organising Tagore's dance drama, Chandalika.
The message is one against the prevalent caste system and untouchability. Prakriti, the protagonist is an untouchable and leads a miserable life. Finally none less than Lord Buddha comes to her seeking water.
She is horrified because she is of low caste but Buddha blesses her and indoctrinates her with the universal message of brotherhood. Finally Chandalika Prakriti offers water to Buddha who gratefully accepts it.
The dance recital will be performed by the students of Visva Bharati's Sangit Bhavan.
