He has style. He has glamour. And he has fans going weak on their knees at the sheer mention of his name!

Salman Khan has the Midas Touch and there is no contradiction about it. He can overshadow even the biggest superstars. No wonder SRK chose to avoid a clash of his Raees with Salman's Sultan during Eid this year.

From his fixation for soaps, cars, to never having an email address and owning a house in Hydra Towers in Dubai, Bollywood's Bhai has a very intriguing lifestyle. But there are more interesting stories about his work front than his personal life.

From Sridevi, Raveena Tandon and Madhuri Dixit to Kareena Kapoor Khan, Katrina Kaif and now Anushka Sharma, his filmography boasts of working with almost all the leading ladies. Even after 37 years, Salman is still unstoppable and super energetic. To celebrate his glorious filmy career, let's take you for a walk down memory lane and reveal some exciting facts about his hit films-

1. Maine Pyar Kiya

Salman debuted with Biwi Ho To Aisi. But he grabbed eyeballs only with his second film Maine Pyar Kiya. The film not only immortalised the "friend" cap and the kabootar, but also gave Salman's his screen name Prem. But reportedly, director Sooraj Barjatya wasn't too happy with Salman's first audition for the film. Even Salman started suggesting names of other actors who could fit the bill better. It was this sweet gesture that touched Sooraj and he decided to go ahead with the actor as the lead of his iconic film. However, it is another story that Salman had no work for almost one year after MPK!

2. Hum Aapke Hain Koun

This film will always remain the most innocent love stories of all times. It was a remake of Nadiya Ke Paar. Surprisingly, Madhuri was paid close to 2 crores for the film, which was way more than Salman's remuneration. Painter M.F. Hussain saw the film 85 times, due to his inclination towards Madhuri. While she walked away with Best Actress trophy, Salman was left empty handed! However, Salman and Madhuri's pairing became epic. They went on to do several films including Saajan.

3. Patthar Ke Phool

Remember the number of films and characters Salman and Raveena Tandon referred to in the song "Kabhi Tu Chhalia Lagta Hai" from the film Patthar Ke Phool? Dressed as Nargis and Raj Kapoor, the two went all happy and fun in the hit track. Interestingly, singer S. P. Balasubrahmanyam became the voice of Salman after this film.

4. Love

South beauty Revathi made her Hindi film debut opposite Salman in this cute romantic movie. We can never forget it for its song "Sathiya Tune Kya Kiya". The film was made with a budget of 1.5 crores. Still thinking if it's more, or less in those times? A remake of a Telugu blockbuster, the makers of Love, changed its tragic climax to a happy one so that nobody walks out sad from cinema halls. Interestingly, after a decade, Revathi directed Salman in her film Phir Milenge, where Salman played an HIV patient.

5. Ek Ladka Ek Ladki

TV channels still love to play their comic-drama Ek Ladka Ek Ladki on weekends. Though it reminded us of Satte Pe Satta, these two added their own personal touch. Interestingly, Neelam has been the only actress who has also played Salman's sister in Hum Sath Sath Hain. And they were good in that too!

6. Karan Arjun

The blockbuster film was earlier titled "Kaaynaat" and became the second highest-grossing film of 1995. While SRK was already a renowned name before doing this film, Salman was yet to become a big star. Salman's co-star Mamta Kulkarni was not the first choice for his love interest. It was originally offered to Nagma. But things didn't work out. Salman and Mamta however, made a pretty looking pair!

7. Andaz Apna Apna

First things first. Salman's hairstyle kept on changing in the iconic film because it took 3 years to shoot it. Meanwhile, Salman had completed HAHK and Saajan, and both the films had him in different looks, which reflected on Andaz Apna Apna. The film's crazy fact is most of it's dialogues were improvised during it's shooting, with Salman and Aamir adding their impromptu gigs to it. Initially, none of the actors got along. But they displayed immense chemistry onscreen. Seeing this picture, who would say they weren't on talking terms really!

8. Hello Brother

Inspired from Malayalam film, Aayushkalam, it is heard that Salman and brother Sohail made a lot of script changes during it's shooting and added their own quirks in Salman's dead character of Hero. It was also the first time Salman sang for a film. Though we won't want to remember his "Chandi Ki Daal Par" after his much better recent song "Main Hoon Hero".

9. Phir Milenge

It was a pleasant change from the otherwise loud characters that Salman plays. While his silent chemistry with Shilpa Shetty could be felt more than seen, Shilpa had once said that Salman was the one who got her back when she was going through a very low phase in her life and career. The two have done several films together including Auzaar and Garv too. Mind you, all these films were from different genres.

10. Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya

Before playing the second lead in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai opposite Kajol. The two were also seen in Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya. You'll be surprised to know that Salman's shirtless act in "O O Jaane Jaana" wasn't the way it was planned. He went bare-chested because his shirt for the song was too tight! Read what Salman himself had to say about it:

"We were about to shoot the song and I had just started training at that point. The previous schedule's clothes were too tight like a blouse and weren't fitting well. It would've become too late if we got new clothes. As it is we weren't shooting, so I suggested taking a few bare-chested shots. We put those headphones like Michael Jackson. They were a new trend at that time. I also had a guitar in my hand. It looked okay and we went ahead with it. So had my old clothes fit me, the bare-chested bit would not have been possible.

11. Veer

Salman picked up his pen and scripted this period drama. However, it was not the first time that he did this. His earlier films like Baaghi and Chandra Mukhi were also based on Salman's story idea. The actor saw Zarine Khan on the sets of Yuvvraj, and decided to cast her for Veer because she "looked like a princess".

12. Jai Ho

The artist in Salman keeps popping out. And Jai Ho tried to tap on his talent too. The film had shots of Salman sketching several times. The actor had even painted the film's poster. We hear his good friend Aamir Khan's house is full of paintings gifted by Salman. Sweet!

13. Ek Tha Tiger

Salman doesn't watch Katrina's films. Not now. Neither when they were dating! According to reports, Salman had slapped Kat in front of the entire crew during the shooting of song "Mashallah" from Ek Tha Tiger. Salman apparently didn't like Katrina wearing a short dress. In his own words:

"Yes I don't. Once I saw she was wearing a really small skirt and I didn't like it. But then you have to sometimes chill and let it go. And I don't have a choice, and it's better to stay away from those things. I mean I see the promos and get an idea of what is going to be in the film, so it's better to stay away from that."

14. Wanted

Salman returned to action after a really long time. Last he did that was in Veergati and Karan Arjun. But it wasn't the action that made life difficult for him. Rather it was matching steps with Parbhu Deva. Funnily, Prabhu taught him something, but when Salman did that and saw it on the preview monitor, it looked completely different. Read what he said:

"It was very funny .He choreographed some steps and told his assistant to make me rehearse. So from Prabhu Deva's style to the assistant's style there was a difference. And then from the assistant's style to my style was a huge difference. They put on the music and I showed Prabhu what I could do. He looked at me and said "Sir, but these are not the steps I choreographed".

15. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam

hum dil de chuke sanam

This will always remain the most memorable film of Salman's career. More so because of his real-life romance with co-star Aishwarya Rai, which resonated beautifully onscreen too. We hear it was director Sanjay Leela Bhansali's idea to tie Aish's hair and give her a ghagra-choli attire as opposed to her western looks. And it worked. Ismail Darbar apparently spent two years on composing the music for the film which won three National Awards. In the song "Dholi Taaro" real marigold flowers were used to light-up the acrylic floor. And it looked splendid. Salman's character is shown speaking to his deceased father while looking at the sky. This was inspired by SLB's real life habit. Sameer's scenes while talking to his father were the most beautiful ones, considering it was the only time he spoke his heart out.

16. London Dreams

The film was extensively shot in London. And after a point, the cast got bored of eating continental food every day. Salman flew his own cook from Mumbai and got him to prepare biryani for the entire crew. Perks of working on a Salman film.

17. Bajrangi Bhaijaan

bajrangi bhaijaan

Salman's bodyguard Shera had once said that when Salman used to shoot with Karisma Kapoor, and her sister Kareena visited her on the sets, Salman's had given Shera the duty to take good care of the little one. Years later when Salman acted with Kareena, it was a nostalgia. Bajrangi Bhaijaan was Salman-Kareena's fourth film together. Also, it was the first time Salman called Kareena "behenji" onscreen. During the film's shooting in Karjat, Salman gave a beautiful gift to the residents of Hatluni village on New Year. He got his entire unit to paint houses of the village. He also gifted sarees to the women there and played football with local kids. Salman did some painting on the sets too. He gifted one of his paintings to Kareena later.

18. Prem Ratan Dhan Payo

prem ratan dhan payo

After a small stint in Saawariya, Salman and Sonam Kapoor were paired in this film.Salman, however, said he was embarrassed to romance the daughter of his good friend Anil Kapoor! Salman had not signed any family drama for four years as he knew that Sooraj Barjatya was working on PRDP. Sooraj is known for spending lavishly on his films. And considering lights were an important element of the set design, the cost of illumination over the 258-day schedule came between 13-15 crore. Salman also let go off his fee for the film, due to his old friendship with Sooraj. A Sheesh-Mahal inspired set was also erected for the climax of the film.

19. Sultan

While we await the release of Sultan, we heard that Salman even cried on the sets. The actor was recording the song "Jag Ghumiya" for the film and the lyrics of the song made him so emotional that he couldn't hold back his tears. Salman and Anushka were going the organic way and hogging on some tomatoes and sugarcane in the fields of Punjab, during their shooting days.

Known to be a man with the golden heart, Salman has even given breaks to actresses like Sonakshi SInha, Athiya Shetty, Sneha Ullal and Daisy Shah, apart from promoting Priyanka Chopra, Jacqueline Fernandez and Katrina. He is a true rockstar who never minds exploring films with unconventional scripts and pairings. Hats off Salman!
