In Short

  • DMK chief Karunanidhi hit out at the AIADMK chief for making his son MK Stalin sit with the crowd.
  • Karunanidhi alleged that the entire arrangements were premeditated to insult the DMK party.
  • This is perhaps not the first time when the two party rivals indulged in a tit-for-tat moment.

Hours after Jayalalithaa took her oath as Tamil Nadu chief minister for a second term at the Madras University Centenary Auditorium, DMK chief Karunanidhi hit out at the AIADMK chief for making his son MK Stalin sit with the crowd.

KARUNANIDHI FURIOUS AFTER SON STALIN MADE TO SIT WITH CROWD

Alleging that the entire arrangements were premeditated to insult the DMK party, Karunanidhi said, "Jayalalithaa shows her natural character of taking revenge even during the swearing-in ceremony. She will never change."

The leader's remarks came after AISMK leader Sarath Kumar, who lost at Thiruchendur, was made to sit in the front row while DMK's representative Stalin whose party has won 89 seats and is going to form the opposition in the assembly was made to sit away from the VIPs.

Although Stalin had graciously accepted the invitation to the event, it was only later that he realised he was made to sit with the crowd.

Sources say that Stalin and his company were made to sit behind VIPs and AIADMK MLAs.

Political observer K Madhav says, "This is nothing new in Tamil Nadu. Revenge is the way for Jayalalithaa and Karunanidhi to feed their ego. But I remember an event where Jayalalithaa was deeply embarrassed. During the UPA regime, Manmohan Singh had visited Chennai and Jayalalithaa was at the airport to welcome the PM. While every minister present there greeted one another, Dhayanidhi Maran and Alagiri refused to acknowledge her deliberately. This is one moment she'll never forget."

TIT-FOR-TAT

This is perhaps not the first time when the two party rivals indulged in a tit-for-tat. Earlier, Jayalalithaa had decided to construct a new Secretariat building next to Anna University but the Karunanidhi government converted the building into a library.

Jayalalithaa then converted a multi-storey building, which was built by DMK government and meant to be used as the new Secretariat building, into a multi-speciality hospital.

Perhaps this is why the state government is yet to have its own assembly building.
