HSBC Global Research said the first twenty two days of May yielded MOP14bn in Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) for Macau gaming industry.
This implies an average run rate of MOP564m/day in the past two weeks, normalized from MOP762m/day during the first week which covers the Labour Day holiday weekend and is largely in line with the run rate during March and April.
GGR softened into the second week of May post holiday but rebounded to around MOP600m/day in the past week. Phone betting has been banned since 9 May but impact on gaming revenue has been muted so far, it believes.
HSBC expects full month to finish MOP18.5bn-19bn, or -7% to -9% yoy from -10% in April. This implies an average run rate of MOP500-560m/day for rest of the month.
