Thunderstorm, squall likely in Santhal Pargana

Ranchi: The Ranchi weather office on Monday issued a warning that thundershowers accompanied by squall will likely hit the north and north-eastern parts of Jharkhand in the next 24 hours.
Weather experts said Godda, Dumka and Sahibganj districts are likely to witness thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds blowing up to a maximum speed of 50 km per hour at isolated places.

"A trough line passing through Jharkhand exists between north and eastern India (till the Gangetic West Bengal). The trough line is responsible for moisture incursion," weather scientist Uprendra Srivastava said.
He added that a trough line caused rain in isolated parts of central and eastern Jharkhand on Monday afternoon, including Ranchi.
Weathermen issued a rainfall warning due to nor'wester activities and synoptic conditions in most parts of Jharkhand for the next two days. Ranchi on Monday experienced strong winds blowing at 60 km/per hour at around 3 pm. Winds uprooted trees in HEC and Chutia areas. There were immediate reports of loss of life or property. A brief spell of rain (11.3 mm) was reported. The weather office said hail measuring 0.8 mm was also reported in few areas of the city and its fringes.
