Immediately after a video — in which policemen believed to be from Kandivli police station were seen thrashing a couple — went viral on the internet, the police top brass said they are verifying the authenticity of the video.

Sources said that if the video is found to be genuine, the policemen involved would then face disciplinary action.

The said video was filmed by hotelier Rakesh Shetty. In it, some police officers are seen beating up a couple with bamboo sticks and the one of the officers is also seen slapping the boy, who later fled with the girl from the police station out of fear.

"We need to first be sure that the video is not tampered with. The video will be checked by the forensic department and if they confirm that it is genuine, then we would identify the errant policemen and take necessary action against them," said a senior police officer.

Speaking to dna, Shetty said, "On May 11, I had visited Kandivli police station for some work and while I was there, I saw some policemen thrashing a couple who had come to register a complaint. I filmed the incident and also informed senior police officers about it. If the police questions the authenticity of the video, they can verify it."
