No-trust threat for UDF in Maradu municipality
Kochi: The ruling UDF council in Maradu municipality, which completed a year on May 18, is facing the toughest-ever challenge from the opposition, LDF front, in the form of a no-confidence motion against the chairperson.
The LDF has submitted a notice to the regional joint director of urban affairs in Kochi on Monday, informing him about moving the no–confidence motion against UDF chairperson Ajitha Nandakumar.

When such a move is planned against the local body chairperson, a notice should be submitted in advance to the regional joint director of urban affairs. C S Sasidharan, regional joint director, said, "Yes, they have given me the notice today. I will first hold a meeting with councillors in 15 days. The opposition can move the resolution after this. The meeting will be held before June 6. The Maradu municipality will be the first local body facing a no–confidence motion in the state after the new governing bodies came to power on November 18 last year.
If the motion fails due to lack of majority support, another no–confidence motion cannot be moved against the same person in the next six months.
LDF has 17 councillors, including two independents, in the 33-member council. T R Krishnakumar, CPM councillor, said, "We have the majority in the council. The chairperson's post is reserved for women. We have 10 women councillors. We had earlier supported Divya Anilkumar, who contested as an independent candidate, for the chairperson's post. The party will take a decision on it."
According to another CPM councillor, the current chairperson will step down before the LDF moves the motion in the council.
Meanwhile, UDF chairperson Ajitha Nandakumar said, "We have not received any notice regarding the no–confidence motion. I will take a decision on continuing in the post after holding discussions with the party."
