A 20-year-old youth was feared drowned at Manginapudi beach near Machilipatnam on Monday.
According to D. Sravan Kumar, Deputy Superintendent of Police, the youth, Sabbaz Ali of Machilipatnam, visited the beach along with his 11 friends. Ali works in a textile showroom here.
Mr. Ali, who observed fasting on Sunday night as part of a ritual, went to the beach to take a holy dip. Despite warnings by his friends, he ventured into the deep sea and drowned.
Local fishermen and marine police launched search operation.
