Cleaning Yamuna: Delhi govt to take cue from Seechewal
Jalandhar: The Delhi government would take help of Punjab Pollution Control Board member and noted environmentalist Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal for cleaning Yamuna river, said Delhi water minister Kapil Mishra.
Mishra, who is also the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) chairman along with senior board officials and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders of Punjab, visited Seechewal village in Jalandhar and Sultanpur Lodhi town of Kapurthala to see reutilization of treated water for irrigation and rejuvenation of historic rivulet Kali Bein.

Baba Seechewal explained the entire model of cleaning the Kali Bein rivulet and setting up water treatment plant in Seechewal village at a very low cost in the area.
Mishra said after Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal visited Sultanpur Lodhi, he asked him to visit the place and take tips to clean Yamuna. He said models of cleaning Kali Bein and reutilization of treated waste water of the villages would be replicated to clean the river.
"We have planned to clean the Yamuna within two to three years to provide pure drinking water to entire Delhi," Mishra said while extending invitation to Baba Seechewal to visit Delhi for a meeting with Kejriwal and entire team of Delhi Jal Board.
He also revealed that on Tuesday he would meet union water resources minister Uma Bharti who had herself visited Seechewal and Sultanpur Lodhi to discuss cleaning of Yamuna.
