French Open 2016, Day 2 as it happened: Wawrinka survives, Muguruza struggles, Murray trails overnight
Preview: Andy Murray and defending champion Stan Wawrinka start their French Open campaigns on Monday against a pair of fiery Czechs on a day when Roland Garros plays catch-up after a rain-soaked Sunday. Second seed Murray, a three-time semi-finalist in Paris, takes on 37-year-old Radek Stepanek, the oldest man in the draw and one of a record 51 men over the age of 30 to start the first round. Murray, buoyed by beating world number one Novak Djokovic to the Rome Masters title on clay on the eve of Roland Garros, holds a 6-2 career record over Stepanek.

Second seed Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland defeated Serbia’s Bojana Jovanovski 6-0, 6-2 to ease into the French Open second round.
Radwanska, who was a quarter-finalist in 2013 but lost in the first round to Germany’s Annika Beck last year, goes on to face Caroline Garcia of France.
Garcia won the Strasbourg claycourt title on Saturday.
Monday’s result left Jovanovski, the world number 120, without a win in 2016.

Two back-to-back upsets on the women’s side:
#108 Shelby Rogers ousts #17 Karolian Pliskova. 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Pliskova was at one time up a set and a break.
#16 Sara Errani knocked out by Tsvetana Pironkova 3-6, 2-6. Clay court specialist Errani says goodbye to the clay season with zero wins on red dirt (only won in Charleston on green clay).
Simona Halep wins!
Romanian sixth seed Simona Halep, the 2014 runner-up, reached the French Open second round in just 43 minutes.
Halep eased past Japan’s Nao Hinbo 6-2, 6-0 and next plays either Zarina Diyas of Kazakhstan or Carina Witthoeft of Germany for a place in the last 32.
Score update:
Japan’s fifth seed Kei Nishikori reached the French Open second round on Monday with a 6-1, 7-5, 6-3 win over Simone Bolelli of Italy.
Nishikori goes on to face Russia’s Andrey Kuznetsov after finishing off a first-round tie which had been suspended overnight with him leading 2-1 in the third set.
It was a 50th career Grand Slam match win for Nishikori who made the quarter-finals in Paris in 2015.

Play on the second day of the French Open eventually got underway two and a half hours later than scheduled on Monday after more rain lashed a chilly Roland Garros.
But 12 of the 66 ties slated for the day were cancelled after a first day Sunday which saw just 10 matches completed.
