Cabinet approves Budget proposals

SRINAGAR, May 23:  The Cabinet which met here today under the chairmanship of Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti approved the budget proposals for the year 2016-17, to be presented by Finance Minister, Dr Haseeb A Drabu in the State Legislature on May 30.
During the Cabinet meeting, sources said that Vice-Chancellor of Jammu University, Prof R D Sharma came under severe criticism of BJP Ministers, who alleged stifling of students’ voice as well as their activities on the campus.
The issue was first raised by the Minister for Industries and Commerce, Chander Parkash Ganga, who alleged that the incumbent VC was anti-students and dictatorial in his aproach. He referred to some instances when the university administration did not allow students to carry out even positive activities like organizing of blood donation camp.
Ganga was soon joined by other BJP Ministers who also accused Prof R D Sharma of being hostile towards student organizations, particularly the ABVP and its leaders.
Taking cognizance of the BJP Ministers’ complaints against the Vice-Chancellor, sources said that the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti asked the Minister of Education Naeem Akhtar to look into the matter and ensure remedial measures.
Meanwhile, condemning the barbaric killing of three police personnel in Srinagar today, the Cabinet expressed profound grief over the inhumane killings.
Describing the killings as cowardly acts, aimed at derailing the peace and reconciliation process in the State, the Cabinet said that such killings cannot deter the resolve of the Government in moving ahead to bring peace and normalcy to the State.
While expressing solidarity with the families of deceased ASI Ghulam Mohammad Bhat R/o Surigam, Lolab, Head Constable Nazir Ahmad Mir R/o Chack Sarmarg, Handwara and Constable Mohammad Siddiq Sheikh R/o Doodi, Machil, Kupwara, the Cabinet assured that Government stands by the families of the martyred policemen in this hour of grief and will extend all possible help and assistance to the next of kin.
