Wife seeks Rs 4L compensation for 'alcoholic' hubby's death

Darbhanga: One Parvati Devi of Khanpur in Samastipur district has demanded Rs4 lakh compensation for her husband Suresh Sahni's death at the de-addiction centre of Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) due to alleged negligence in his treatment.
DMCH sources said her letter to principal secretary (health) and the CM secretariat has been forwarded to the hospital administration for inquiry.
Parvati stated in her letter that her husband, who was an alcoholic, was feeling uneasiness after prohibition in Bihar from April 5. When his condition started deteriorating, she took him to sadar hospital, Samastipur, on May 3. The doctors there referred him on May 4 to the DMCH de-addiction centre from where he was discharged on May 5. Suresh died on way to his village due to negligence in his treatment, Parvati alleged and demanded compensation as per the provisions in Bihar.
"Health department secretary Jitendra Shrivastav has sought a report from DMCH superintendent Dr SK Mishra on this issue," said a source.
Mishra said he has also sought report on this issue from Dr B K Singh, the head of the department of medicine, and Dr Upendra Paswan, nodal officer of the de-addiction centre in this regard. "Action will be taken after receiving report from the duo," Mishra said.
