Briefing for pepper growers.
SIBU: Over 600 pepper growers participated in the Syngenta Pepper Demo Day at Rh Nyueok Sang, Nanga Maras, Krian, Saratok recently.
The event was organised by Syngenta Crop Protection Sdn Bhd in conjunction with its celebration of 20 years of Score products in the market.
According to the Regional sales manager (Sabah and Sarawak), John Kui-Min Kulu, Syngenta Crop Protection is a multi-national company with emphasis on giving a crop solution to pepper growers rather than just selling them chemical products.
The products include Alika ZC, Amistar Top, Score and Anvil.
“This is the first time we did the forum on a big scale; previously we only did small forums of between 40 to 100 participants,” he said.
He said the company is meeting the farmers every week to educate them on pepper farming.
He said during the event, three pepper growers Segan Jubin, Karon Lee, and Tambi Jerah also shared their success story.
The three related their experience from advice given by Syngenta staff on pest control to increase their yield of dry pepper from 2.5kg up to 8kg per vine per year by using quality crop protection, quality fertilizer and so forth.
Pepper growers were also briefed by Syngenta staff on the importance of stewardship when handling the insecticides and fungicides.
They were told that wearing protective cloth during spraying is very important as 90 per cent of the toxic chemical could be absorbed through the skin.
