Tottenham Hotspur forward Heung-Min Son is not concerned by speculation over his future despite admitting his maiden season in the Premier League failed to meet expectations. Speculation is rife that the South Korea international could be among the players to leave north London after the club failed to secure a runners-up spot in the Premier League.

The Daily Telegraph understand that Spurs are ready to part with Son less than 12 months after he arrived from Bayer Leverkusen, as long as they can recoup the £22m they paid for him in August 2015. Manager Mauricio Pochettino is also prepared to listen to offers for midfielder Ryan Mason and Nabil Bentaleb, who missed swathes of last term with fitness problems.

Son scored a modest 10 goals in 44 appearances for Tottenham last season, but it was his last performance of the campaign which sees his future under the microscope after he was taken off at half-time in the 5-1 final day loss at Newcastle United, which saw the club miss out on second place. Chairman Daniel Levy is understood to be displeased by the showing which saw rivals Arsenal leapfrog them, and several players are expected to be offloaded as a result.

"I haven't heard anything from the club regarding those transfer rumours," Son insisted, according to Sky Sports. "I'm sure my club will take care of this, and I think there is nothing special for me to be worried about. My first season in the Premier League didn't meet my expectations, but I had a good experience. For my first season, I played with the thought that I should learn many things here."

Pochettino has already stated he wants to add a striker to the Tottenham artillery to support top scorer Harry Kane, who netted 25 times in the Premier League last season. Whether the overhaul of the frontline includes the exit of Son remains to be seen, but the immediate desire for change highlights the standards Pochettino demands of his squad.

A departure from Tottenham could yet hit Son's ambitions of representing his country at the Olympic Games in Rio this summer. The White Hart Lane club are under no obligation to allow him to play but have responded "positively" to Son's request to feature in the tournament – which runs until 20 August – and would see him miss at least the club's first two Premier League games of the season. "I already told my club that I want to go the Olympics, and they seemed to be examining my request with a positive attitude," he explained.
