Guwahati: Expecting a huge gathering of around one lakh people during the grand swearing-in ceremony of the state's new chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal at the city's Khanapara veterinary playground on May 24, city traffic police have planned elaborate traffic arrangements.
More than 250 VIPs and VVIPs are expected, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, senior BJP leaders and spiritual gurus like Sri Sri Ravi Shankar as well as yoga guru Baba Ramdev.
BJP party president Amit Shah and chief ministers of NDA-ruled states are expected as well.
"Participants coming from the city's Zoo Road side and GS Road side will be routed through Supermarket, Last Gate, and BN Saikia road. After participants alight at Basistha Chariali, vehicles will proceed further towards Basistha temple as per parking availability," said city traffic deputy commissioner Pranab Jyoti Goswami.
All vehicles carrying participants from upper Assam, after dropping them off beneath the Khanapara flyover on NH37, will be guided to the J Marbaniang service station, Greenwood Resort and Young Construction for parking.
Vehicles coming from lower Assam will be guided to the express highway and Sixmile-Panjabari road for parking after dropping off the participants at Joyanagar Chariali.
"Private vehicles will be routed through Supermarket via Sixmile-Joyanagar side, and will be allowed to park their vehicles at Beltola Bazaar field, Beltola Bihu field, the earmarked stretch of the Beltola Tiniali and Dakhin Beltola High School field," the traffic advisory added.
Those on their two-wheelers will be guided to park their vehicles at Khanapara Rotary.
"NH 37, from LGBI Airport to Khanapara, Jalukbari Rotary to Bharalumukh, MG Road from Bharalumukh to Raj Bhawan, KLB Road, GNB Road from RBI to Guwahati Club, B Baruah Road, and GS Road from Volvo Point to Khanapara are declared as no parking zones for the day," traffic police said.
