Daltonganj: The Latehar district armed police and a team of 11 battalion of CRPF on Sunday pulled out a series of 59 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted on the jungle route at Bikra in Latehar district on Sunday. Each of the 59 IEDs weighed around half kilogram and were stuffed in cans. Sources in the police said in the last 25 days in Latehar district the police and CRPF have discovered 200 IEDs including the latest haul and 3,200 cartridges including 701 cartridges of AK 47.
SP Latehar Anoop Birtharey has confirmed the recovery of the IEDs laid in series at Bikra forest on Sunday, saying with this haul the Maoists have lost their 200 IEDs in 25 days . Birtharey said all these retrievals have occurred in the northern part of Latehar. This is where the Maoists store ammunition explosives, ammonium nitrate sulphuric acid and other deadly oil. DIG police Saket Kumar Singhsaid, "The forest is small and not very dense in the north of Latehar so the Maoists have no choice but to hide their ammunition explosives chemicals here." tnn
Saket added, " There are fewer escape routes in this part as the Maoists might easily get caught. They will be in trouble if they take NH 75 or NH 98 or travel down to Kekargarh as there are forward security posts set up at Taal in Palamu and Serendag in Herhunj in Latehar.
