Sambalpur: Allegations of baby-swapping surfaced at at the Special New Born Care Unit (SNCU) of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medial Sciences and Research (Vimsar) in Burla on Saturday evening.
Gagan Bihari Patra and his wife Reena Patra of Podakhol under Kisinda police station have moved the Burla police, demanding DNA test to settle the issue.
Reports said Reena have birth to a girl on May 17.
However, she was referred to the Vimsar as she did not cry after birth. The baby was admitted in the SNCU of the hospital on Saturday morning and was allotted bed no-16. Another couple Sudam Bhoi and his wife Sanjukta Bhoi of village Bhaunripathar in Boudh district had also admitted their baby girl at the SNCU and was allotted bed number 17. But Gagan's new born baby, who was on bed number 16, died on Saturday evening.
However, Gagan alleged that his daughter was alive and had been swapped with the baby who was on bed number 17.
