A herd of elephants raided a banana plantation in Balluru Hundi village of Nanjangud taluk in Mysuru district early on Sunday and destroyed the crop.

According to sources, eight elephants from Hediyala forests entered the plantation spread across four acres of land belonging to Nanjundaswamy.

As soon as he learnt about the elephants entering his plantation, Nanjundaswamy rushed to the spot along with relatives and other villagers to drive the pachyderms away.

The forest officials too were alerted by the villagers. The officials reached the village and managed to drive the elephants back into the forests.
