With summer season at its peak and educational institutions closed for summer vacation, tourists from different parts of the southern States throng the hill station of Yercaud during weekends.

Yercaud, located on the Shevaroyan Hills, is greeting the visiting tourists with a pleasant weather. The hill station has been experiencing good showers for the past few days and this has brought cheer to the tourists and the local people.

All the lodging houses and private guest houses are overflowing with tourists. Boat House, Botanical Garden, Deer Park, Shevaroyan Temple, Gents Seat and Ladies Seat posed a crowded look. Though the hill station has been attracting a large number of tourists since March, the inflow has doubled ever since the Assembly election formalities were completed.

All the hotels, both big and small, and roadside eateries made brisk business. Absence of proper sanitation facilities is a major disappointment to the visitors. The Boat House as usual was the major attraction and men, women and children were making a beeline to enjoy boating in the lake from dawn to dusk. The inadequate parking facility for the four-wheelers and the presence of pavement dwellers in the nook of corner of the town affecting the movement of both the vehicles and pedestrians is a major hardship the tourists face.

Special police parties have been patrolling the ghat section and also the Yercaud town and its outskirts, which helped checking the menace of drunken driving to a certain extent.
