Rajgopal Nayaka, who was one of the aspiring students under the School Development Project (SDP), an initiative of the Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement (SVYM), has topped in his school by scoring 601 out of 625 (96.2 per cent) in the SSLC exams.
Rajgopal was studying in Government High School, Hanchya. He scored 94 in science and 96 in mathematics and social science.
The boy hails from a poor family, with his father Mariswamy Nayaka working in a brick factory and mother Kumari working as a caretaker in the nursery of one of the schools here. The boy aspires to become a doctor, according to SVYM.
Kumar, SDP school facilitator for Hanchya school, supported Rajgopal in his studies by giving him special coaching in the evening after school hours.
SDP aims to improve the learning environment in schools and the quality of teacher-student interaction for the sake of holistic development of students.
There are eight government schools under SDP in Mysuru district, and 537 students had appeared for the Class 10 examination this year, SVYM said.
“We are delighted to state that the outcome of our intervention through SDP stands at 84.54 per cent — Mysuru rural at 87.71 per cent and H.D. Kote taluk at 81.73 per cent. More than six per cent of the students passed with distinction and 46 per cent of them have got first class,” said Ravishankar T.N., assistant director (education), SVYM.
This initiative is supported by L&T, Mysuru, for eight schools of Mysuru rural and H.D. Kote taluk. For 2016-17, L&T has extended its support to 16 government high schools in Mysuru district.
