: Taking a serious view of the open brawl between Addanki MLA Gottipati Ravi Kumar and party vice-president Karanam Balaramakrishna Murthy followers, the Telugu Desam Party leadership has decided to refer the issue to the disciplinary committee. Based on the report of the committee, necessary action would be taken.

TDP official spokesperson and Vijayawada (Central) MLA Bonda Umamaheswara Rao said that the party leadership took a serious view of the clash at mini Mahanadu at Ongole.

“The disciplinary committee will inquire into the incident,” he said.

The sources, however, say that warring leaders would be let off with a “stern warning.”

The party might not take any serious action against Mr. Murthy, who is a senior leader. Mr. Murthy has been opposing the entry of Mr. Ravi Kumar, YSR Congress MLA, into the Telugu Desam. Notwithstanding the fact Mr. Murthy is a senior leader, he should realise that “party line should be followed,” sources said

Naidu calls for restraint

According to information, TDP national president and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu asked the warring groups to maintain restraint. Any difference of opinion should be brought to the notice of the party leadership.

The TDP has always been against group politics and would not tolerate any repetition in the future.

Tension prevailed at the Collectorate in Ongole last year when supporters of Mr. Ravi Kumar and Mr. Murthy clashed on the premises. Mr. Murthy’s followers hurled stones on the MLA’s car. He, however, escaped unhurt.
