A 51-year-old autorickshaw driver was shot at in Andheri by two accused on Friday night.

The victim, identified as Vitthal Sutrave, was waiting for passenger near Rahat Medical Store in Andheri (East) when the accused duo approached him to extort money. Sutrave fell into a heated argument and later one of the accused removed a revolver, Sutrave started running.

According to the police, Sutrave dropped a passenger and was waiting for his next passenger. At the same time, the two accused — of which one has been identified as Amjad Mujavar (38) — were sitting nearby. The duo approached Sutrave and demanded some cash which Sutrave denied to pay. After a heated argument, the duo entered into a scuffle with Sutrave. Soon, Mujavar removed his revolver and tried to threaten Sutrave to either pay or die. Sutrave out of fear tried to run away and Mujavar fired five rounds at him which missed. However, Sutrave was hit by the sixth bullet.

Sutrave, who was critically injured, was rushed to Cooper Hospital. The accused are absconding and the police are looking for them. The police said that they have charged the accused duo for attempt to murder and under various sections of the Arms Act and the Indian Penal Code.
