VADODARA: Former IPS officer D G Vanzara, who is out on bail in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, said on Sunday the same political forces that pushed him behind the bars were behind framing Asaram Bapu. He said Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur and Col Purohit were also falsely implicated.
“I have read cases against Asaram. As a former police officer, I know they are fake.
Even Sadhvi Pragya and Col Purohit have been framed. The NIA recently dropped charges against Sadhvi Pragya. She and Asaram are being targeted as they are protectors of Sanatan Dharma,” Vanzara said amid ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ slogans in Akota. He said there was nothing like “Hindu terror”.
The Gujarat Asmita Manch, formed by former VHP joint-secretary Niraj Jain, felicitated Vanzara and took out a rally in his honour. Vanzara garlanded Bhagat Singh’s statue with a dummy pistol that was presented to him. BJP leader and mayor Bharat Dangar also attended the ceremony.
“I spent many years in jail but I didn’t let it affect me. I now want to serve 6.5 crore Gujaratis and my public life begins from this moment,” said Vanzara.
“Hindustan was spread across vast territory from Afghanistan to Myanmar but it got divided into different parts. Anti-national forces now want to divide what is remaining of India,” he said.
“If necessary, I will form a platform to counter anti-national forces that have framed nationalists like us,” Vanzara told TOI. When asked whether he would enter politics, Vanzara said the picture would be clear in future.
On whether he expects help from the Centre in his legal battle, the former cop said he has faith in the judiciary and the government has little role to play in it.
