A group of lawyers have sought the intervention of the Uttarakhand Human Rights Commission in the ongoing sting operation episode in the state.

Lawyer Rajesh Rastogi, who is also the chief organiser of the Sewa Dal, Uttarkahand, has written a letter to the commission, seeking a narco test on Umesh Sharma, bureau chief of a news channel, who conducted the sting operation in which Chief Minister Harish Rawat was seen allegedly offering money to buy the support of the rebel Congress MLAs. Rastogi mentioned that it was an “attempt to tarnish the image of Harish Rawat.”

He also sought a narco test on all nine rebel Congress legislators, who had joined the BJP. Arun Bhadauria and Manohar Bhatt, lawyers of the Haridwar civil court, urged the commission to direct the Home Ministry and concerned police agency to pave way for the narco test to ascertain the truth. “The BJP-led Union government is misusing the CBI, which has summoned Harish Rawat for investigation,” they said.
