Durga Jagran Mandal, a social organisation in Kalayat, today solemnised a marriage of a Dalit girl here.
Jagat Ram, a Dalit from Kalayat, earns his livelihood by repairing shoes and was worried about marrying off one of her four daughters.
Interacting with the media, members of the organisation said Jagat Ram approached them some time back and sought help for his daughter’s marriage. They then decided to bear all the expenses of the marriage function, which was held in Aggarwal Dharamshala today.
Paras Mittal, a former president of the Kalayat Anaj Mandi, and other members of the organisation were present at the function.
They said it was a novel experience for them and they felt encouraged to help such needy families in future.
