BJP wins Panipat ward 9 byelection

PANIPAT: Rohita Rewari, local BJP MLA succeeded in save ward 9 of the Panipat Municipal Corporation in a byelection held today.

Rohita Rewari, local BJP MLA succeeded in save ward 9 of the Panipat Municipal Corporation in a byelection held today. Savita Ramdev, official candidate of the BJP, defeated Urmila Sharma, an Independent, by 2806 votes.

Ward 9 was vacated after Rohita Rewari resigned from the post of Municipal Councillor after her election as an MLA.

The byelection had become a prestige issue for the local BJP MLA and the Congress .

While Savita Ramdev was the official BJP candidate, Urmila Sharma, wife of Gaurav Sharma, a dissident BJP worker, too was in the fray.

Urmila Sharma was also supported by the Congress as the nomination of the candidate supported by it was cancelled earlier.

84.3% votes polled in Samalkha

A total 84.3% voters cast their votein the MC poll. The voter turnout was encouraging despite scorching heat. Two councillors of ward 7 and 12 were nominated unopposed.

The winners are: Ashok Kucchal (ward 1), Sunil Sharma(ward 2), Praveen Beniwal (Ward 3), Kusum Lata(ward 4), Praveen(ward 5), Poonam Jhanda(ward 6), Vikram (ward 7 — unopposed), Kavita (ward 8), Jaipal (ward 9), Praveen Kaur (ward 10), Shyam Bareja (ward 11), Ruchi Mittal (ward 12—unopposed), Nidhi Mittal (ward 13), Bijender Pal (ward 14), Santosh (ward 15), Rajesh Thakur (ward 16) and Bijender (ward 17).
