Dipika Kakar: I humbly accept bouquets as well as brickbats
Actress Dipika Kakar believes her TV show 'Sasural Simar Ka' falls in the category of ‘You can like it or hate it, but you surely can’t ignore it’.

What was your first reaction when you heard that your character will turn into a housefly?
Honestly, I was astonished and surprised to say the least. However, as an actor I have never interfered in creative decisions of a show. If I am given the narration, I will do it.
The team that writes the script works hard on bringing out something new every week. So, the least I can do is contribute to it.

The show has been trolled for its inclusion of animals, witches, ghosts etc. What do you have to say about that?
For a long time, we have had people criticising the show on the internet. I believe the show can be liked, hated, but definitely not ignored. I am completely fine with people’s positive or negative opinions. The fact that they are talking about it is always keeping us in the news. That works perfectly for me.

Despite criticism, the show is doing extremely well with regards to TRPs. What do you think clicks with the audience?

This is precisely my point. We have a section of people that likes and enjoys the show. The show has been a trendsetter in the market when it comes to including naagins, witches, ghosts and the like. Today, you see every second show having supernatural characters. The audience is also keen on exploring different subjects and content. They are hungry for out-of-the-box stuff. The same goes for a film; you eagerly look forward to an X-factor in it. Similarly, our X-factor lies in our scripts.

How do you react to trolls? Do you get affected?
No, I don’t let trolls affect me. I am in a profession where everything is a part of the package. If my work is being appreciated, I am bound to face criticism too. Viewers have the freedom to form an opinion. They are welcome to troll what they don’t like. I humbly accept bouquets as well as brickbats. One has to be mature enough and take things in their stride. You can’t sit and crib about it.
