A porcupine named Koko waddled through Montview Boulevard Presbyterian Church Sunday morning. He was followed by a Eurasian Eagle Owl, a red-tailed hawk, a Dumeril’s ground boa and a number of other animals who were blessed by the church’s pastors.

The “Blessing of the Wild Animals,” was a non-denominational, community event designed to celebrate wild animals and educate the public about the Denver Zoo.

The zoo’s handlers led the animals to the church chancel in a procession before they were collectively blessed.

After the ceremony, the handlers and animals posed for pictures and met with congregation members.

This is the second year Montview Boulevard Presbyterian Church has participated in the blessing.
