BHOPAL: A serial killer — much alike Raman Raghav who aimlessly killed people in Mumbai — was arrested in Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh.
Accused Banmali Joshi, 45, has confessed murdering at least six people by smashing their heads with stones, for looting paltry sums of Rs 5,000 from each of them.
“He has confessed of committing six murders, but we suspect that he may have committed other crimes too.
All the police stations of the nearby districts have been asked to provide information about blind murders in their areas and we have taken him on remand for further interrogation,” SP Shivpuri, Mohammad Yusuf Qureshi told TOI.
The accused who also worked as a priest, used to lure youth with the promise of job and asked them to bring cash and valuables with them. Once they agreed and come with money, Joshi used to smash their head with stones and took the money they brought, said police.
“The matter only involved Rs 4000 to Rs 5000. Thus, no one suspected foul play and he managed to escape,” Qureshi said.
It was in one murder case of brothers Buddhu Kewat and Jeevan Lal Kewat of Sehore village, that he executed in December 2015 and January 2016, that police came to know that both the brothers were in touch with the accused, he said.
Joshi was then arrested and when interrogated he admitted of murdering six people, he added.

Joshi committed his first crime in Mungaoli (Ashoknagar district) in year 2007, when he killed one Mulayam Pal with the bait of giving him job.
Then he killed one Suraj Jatav in 2008 in Shivpuri and got life imprisonment for the crime. He was arrested but later got out on bail in 2015, and since then he has murdered four more people.
On December 2015, he murdered Buddhu Kewat of Sehore village. In January 2016, he murdered an unidentified youth near Naoli Dam. In January, itself he again murdered Jeevan Lal Kewat. He has also informed that he murdered an unidentified youth, near Khoda village in February 2016.
