Sarawak lawn bowlers lift Pre-Sukma title

KUCHING: The Sarawak Sukma XVIII team received a big morale boost by winning the Pre-Sukma Lawn Bowls Tournament at the Sarawak Lawn Bowls Arena, Petra Jaya last Saturday.

They topped four categories, finished second in three categories and secured a third placing in one category.

Although Perlis swept the men’s and women’s singles titles via Daeng Dhadry Dahasry and Daeng Dessy Dhabita Dahasry, Sarawak dominated the team events.

Sarawak’s Abdul Rahman Aminuddin, Mohammad Adib Nazeem Nazaruddin, Mohd Samsullaulaiman Yacub and Muhammad Naqiuddin Durrani Nor Afandi topped the men’s fours and their counterparts Sharifah Syaza Nisrina Mumtaz Wan Jemudin, Nur Fitri Rosmadi and Nur Fitrah Rosmadi were victorious in the women’s fours.

Syaza paired with Nur Fithri Yaani Hamdin to capture the women’s pairs title while Jamiah Hasbi, Nur Aryan Bujang and Nur Fitrah Rosmadi won Sarawak’s fourth title.

The one-day event only three teams, the other team being Sarawak’s back-up team.

Perlis’ other two wins were in the men’s pairs (Mohamad Firdaus Fawzi and Daeng Dhadry Dahasry) and men’s triples (Azriff Iqmal Aris, Mohd Yusoff Imran Azalan and Faiz Najimi Noor Mohd Zakri).

The Sarawak Back-Up squad grabbed the silver in the men’s triples through Mohd Fitri Afiq Jamsari, Mohd Zaim Murtadha Tahir and Luqman Nur Hakim Muhd Helmi, and finished third in the men’s singles, men’s pairs and men’s fours.

The competition was used to test the newly completed green and served as a practical for the 26 technical officials for Sukma XVIII, who were also attending a Malaysian Lawn Bowls Federation (MLBF) Level II Judging course.

Among those present at the closing ceremony were MLBF vice president Dato Mohd Shukri Ali, MLBF technical advisor Capt (rtd) Ahmad Shah and Salba president Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamed.
