Paramilitary forces deployed on election duty in Karur district have been asked to stay until the Aravakurichi election is held.

Sources told The Hindu that they had been asked to stay in their respective areas. Besides patrolling, they would be used for accompanying the teams carrying out vehicle check up.

As on date, 35 flying squads, 18 Static Surveillance Teams, and 21 Video Surveillance Teams have been functioning in Aravakurichi constituency. Some members have appealed to the authorities to relieve them from the teams. It is not clear whether their request will be accepted or not. A decision will be taken soon.

The code of conduct remains in force in Karur district in the wake of postponement of election to Aravakurichi constituency.
