Nashik sixth in open defecation free district
NASHIK: Nashik district has secured the sixth position in the state as an Open Defecation Free (ODF) district. Senior officials of the Nashik Zilla Parishad (ZP) were recently felicitated by the chief secretary of the State’s Water Supply and Sanitation Department Rajesh Kumar.
Under the ODF programme, Nashik has set a target of constructing 32,156 toilets in the district for the year 2015-16.
With continuous follow up with the officials at the Gram Panchayat level, the ZP officials ensured that they reached the target and got constructed over 4,000 more toilets in the district.
Senior officials of ZP said that when they had a target of 32,156 toilets, they got 36,585 toilets constructed in various villages of the district. Apart from this, 301 gram panchayats in the district are also now open defecation free, informed officials.
Chief Executive Officer of Nashik ZP, Milind Shambharkar and deputy executive officer of the Water Supply and Sanitation Department Pratibha Sangamnere recently attended a two-day workshop organized in Lonawala under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, where they were felicitated for their outstanding work.
ZP officials said that they took up various programmes at the village level to explain villagers about the drawbacks of open defecation and support them in constructing toilets at their residences.
