Deepak Tiwari and Haneesh Aggarwal have tied for the top position in the tricity with 98.2 per cent in CBSE Class XII exams, the results of which were declared here today. Deepak is a student of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 37, and Haneesh is a student of Delhi Public School, Sector 40.

This is perhaps for the first time that a student of a government school has bagged the top slot in the tricity. This is also a shift in trend from last year when the tricity had produced a topper from the humanities stream with 98.8 per cent marks. The non-medical topper from last year had scored 98 per cent marks. While last year, the topper was a girl, two boys have bagged the top position this year.

Grabbing the top position in Humanities this year with 98 per cent in the tricity is the duo of Anushka, and Sonakshi — both from Bhavan Vidyalaya, Sector 27.

In commerce stream again, there is a tie between Hitasha Sharma of Carmel Convent and Mahek of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 16. The duo has topped the tricity with 97.4 per cent marks.

In the medical stream, Ishita of Shishu Niketan, Sector 22-D, is the tricity topper with 97 per cent marks.

Breaking the previous records of private schools walking away with the top honours, Deepak Tiwari has done his alma mater proud by grabbing the top slot in the tricity. He is proud of his school. “In my opinion, government schools are far better than private schools as in government schools, we get time till 2 pm to study in classes,” he opines.

Sharing his success mantra, Deepak remarks, “One should prepare well before the exams, so that one gets time to revise. Also, if one has prepared well before the exams, one just needs to study two to three hours a day during the exams, which takes away the pressure and stress.”

Son of a private sector employee, Deepak wants to become a computer engineer and loves to play cricket and chess. To relax, he likes listening to music.

Deepak shares the top position with Haneesh who firmly believes in staying happy, confident and positive. Son of a businessman, Haneesh is also a national-level classical dancer and has represented his school at the national level when he was in Class VIII.

“My dream is to get into the IIT and make my parents proud,” he says with a smile.

Anushka, who has topped the humanities stream with 98 per cent marks, says, “My parents have always taught me to focus on becoming a good human being rather than scoring good marks.”

The bubbly girl says she has always aspired to be among the first-five toppers of the class and her family has been a big support.

Sonakshi, another humanities topper with 98 per cent, says she is looking forward to get admission in political science (honours). “My dream is to crack the civil services exams. I have applied for admission in Delhi University and hopefully with such a score, I will able to get admission there.”

Tricity commerce topper Hitasha, who has a score of 97.4 per cent marks, was pleasantly surprised when she saw her score. “Though I was expecting a good score, I did not know that I will top the tricity in my stream,” says Hitasha, clapping her hands with glee.

She says self-study is very important. “I used to study for two hours everyday at home,” she reveals.

Hitasha shares the top position in commerce with Mahek, who aspires to become a CA. Sharing her success mantra, Mahek says 6 to7 hours of quality study everyday saw her through.

Medical stream topper of the tricity Ishita who scored 97 per cent marks says parents must not limit their children to study for fixed hours.
