WR stn masters to fine people now for littering

Mumbai: Beware of littering and spitting on stations of Western Railway as station masters have now been assigned the task of fining such offenders.
The station masters have been given stationwise per day targets to catch such offenders, who can then be fined up to Rs 500 under the section 198 of the Railway Act.
A senior official said, “Earlier station masters did not have the Excess Fare Reciept (EFR) books to issue receipts even if they caught offenders.Now each station master has been provided the EFR.”
WR has set a cumulative target of 251 cases per day for all stations. Officials involved in bringing forward this development said, “On an average 100-120 such offences are detected every day. With this revised target, we hope for better enforcement of rules.”
