Pune: The Yerawada police are on the look out for a woman, a resident of Chandramanagar in Yerawada, for allegedly duping slumdwellers of Rs 50,000 after promising them pucca houses under a government scheme announced in 2012.
The woman was booked after Manohar Pawar (53), a contractual worker and resident of Yerawada, lodged a complaint against her on Friday.
Pawar said the woman had promised him and a few others pucca houses under the scheme.
The woman claimed that she was a representative of a non-government organization which is working for slumdwellers. She urged the residents of Chandramanagar to open a common bank account and deposit their contributions in it. Pawar deposited the money in the bank account and has been waiting for a house since 2012. Finally, he approached the police on Friday.
According to the police, the Central government announced the scheme in 2012, which was implemented with immediate effect. As per the scheme, local civic bodies were to conduct a survey of the people staying in slum areas of the city. The government was supposed to fund 90% of the total cost of the construction of a pucca house, while the claimants were supposed to contribute the remaining 10%.
