Pimpri Chinchwad: The Sambhaji ward roads will be concretized for the first time as a part of the model ward development.
Satish Ingale, executive engineer, Zone F, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), said, "We will be concreting four internal roads having a total length of around 1.6km, located around Ashtavinayak temple in the ward. Earlier there were footpaths of 1.5m width along these roads but now they will have 2.5m wide footpath on just one side to give wider footpath for pedestrians and to ensure that people park their vehicles on the other side.
There will also be ducts under the footpath for utility lines.
The footpaths will be covered by paving blocks which can be removed easily and re-installed when required. "This is being done to ensure that we do not have to dig up the roads in future for laying the utility lines. Storm water drains will be installed along roads," Ingale said.
Ruling party leader Mangala Kadam, said, "My ward has wide roads lined with housing societies and bungalows. We have to tar the roads after a few years as the roads wear out. But we will not have to repair the roads for the next 10 to 15 years if they are concretized. We will also not have to dig up roads frequently for laying utility lines."

The standing committee approved the proposal to concretise the roads in Sambhajinagar ward at a cost of around Rs 3 crore. The project has to be completed in 9 months.
We will concretise half of the width of the road first and then the remaining half so that the local residents are not inconvenienced completely during the concretization work. We want to complete the work in 6 months and the rains will not be an obstacle in completion of the work", Ingale said.
Mangala Kadam, ruling party leader, PCMC said, "My ward has wide roads lined by housing societies and bunglows. We have to tar the roads after a few years as the roads wear out. But we will not have to repair the roads for 10 to 15 years if they are concretised. Further we will not have to dig up roads frequently for laying utility lines."
Kadam is facing criticism from opposition corporators as well as those from the ruling NCP for spending huge amounts of money on implementing civic projects in her ward. PCMC is reconstructing the Bahinabai Chaudhary zoo in phase I at a cost of around Rs 40 crore whose foundation stone was laid by NCP leader Ajit Pawar on Saturday. Modern bus shelter and a dispensary were also inaugurated by him on Saturday in the ward.
