Two CRPF constables jailed for carrying liquor

Sasaram: In what appears to be the first case of action against Central Armed Police Forces since the new Excise Act came into force in Bihar on April 5, two CRPF constables posted in Palamu district of neighbouring Jharkhand were arrested and sent to Gaya central jail on Friday for carrying Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) to their homes. The jawans had purchased the liquor from the CRPF canteen at Daltonganj.
Sources said Sunil Kumar of Gazipur in UP and Mukesh Kumar of Karamaini under Bikramganj police station in Rohtas district were arrested when they were waiting for a train at Dehri-on-Sone. The GRP personnel smell some foul play and searched their bags. Total 24 bottles were recovered from Sunil's bag while Mukesh was carrying eight liquor bottles. The constables said they had purchased the liquor from the CRPF canteen and they were carrying to their residence after being granted leave.
In another case, Kaimur police raided the house of one Mahendra Sah at Lalapur under Kudra police station on Saturday and recovered 2,565 bottles of IMFL kept in 85 cartons and dozens of country-made liquor bottles.
On the confessional statement of the owner, the police arrested two more persons.
After interrogation, it came to light that the consignment was kept by a trader after imposition of liquor ban. Later, the house was sealed.
