VALENTINO Rossi will start from pole position for the MotoGP Grand Prix of Italy.
The nine-time world champion sent the partisan crowd lining the hills around Mugello into raptures, stealing the top spot with seconds to spare with a 1m46.504s lap that came seemingly from nowhere.

His future teammate Maverick Vinales will line his Suzuki up from second in Sunday’s race, his final lap falling 0.094 of a second shy of pole, while Andrea Iannone gave Ducati a front row start on home soil with third.

READ NOWRossi’s chief title contenders will start from the second row, Marc Marquez and Jorge Lorenzo joined by Aleix Espargaro, while Dani Pedrosa, Bradley Smith and Danilo Petrucci fill out the third row.
Jack Miller will start the race from 17th, while teammate Tito Rabat will miss the race after breaking a collarbone in a heavy crash during the morning’s practice session.
