Kanyakumari/Madurai: Heavy rain lashed Kanyakumari district over the last 24 hours, with Eraniel receiving 238 mm rainfall, Colachel 188.60 mm and Kurnthankode 130.80 mm.
Many areas were inundated and water entered the homes at several places. It continued to rain throughout the day on Friday also. Due to the incessant rain residents of Eraniel, Colachel and Kurunthankode stayed indoors.

Farmers were, however, jubilant and started working on their fields.
Traffic on several roads inlcuding the Karungal - Colachel Road was affetced as water flowed on the roads. Local bodies took steps to clear the channels with the help of earthmovers to remove debris and channel the flow of water.
There was also a marginal rise in the water level in Petchiparai and Poigai dams which stood at 62.65 feet and 18.10 feet respectively.
The rain also uprooted trees keeping the fireservice personnel on their feet.
Meanwhile, the day remained cloudy in Madurai and other southern districts too with Idayapatti recording 10.60 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours. Water level in Mullaperiyar dam stood at 110.80 feet with an inflow of 75 cusescs while the water level in Vaigai dam stood at 32.48 feet with an inflow of 79 cusecs.
