Gangster demands phone in prison

Goswami, who is accused of murder, robbery and charged under the Gangsters Act in application to the court said he last met his parents, who are about 70 years old, when they came to jail to meet him about 23 months ago.

Ahmedabad: Manish Goswami from Madhya Pradesh - allegedly an associate of the Vishal Goswmi gang - who is lodged in Sabarmati Central Jail as an undertrial, has urged the court to allow him the facility of a phone in the jail, as there has been no news about his parents for 23 months.
Goswami, who is accused of murder, robbery and charged under the Gangsters Act in application to the court said he last met his parents, who are about 70 years old, when they came to jail to meet him about 23 months ago.

Goswami's application says that his parents live in Morena in MP and that there is nobody to take care of them. He has says that none of his relatives live in Ahmedabad and he is hence worried about his parents.
Goswami pleaded that according to jail rules, those booked for robbery and under the Gangsters Act could not avail of the telephone facility. He pleaded to be allowed to call just two numbers, registered on his parents' names.
Jail authorities forwarded Goswami's application to the court. Manish Goswami has been lodged in Sabarmati Central Jail for 24 months.
