Auto drivers told to charge pre-paid rates

May 21, 2016 12:00 am | Updated September 12, 2016 07:34 pm IST - Manipal:

K. Annamalai, Superintendent of Police, said on Friday that the autorickshaw drivers here should charge pre-paid fares during the night as this would benefit both them and the students of different States studying here.

He was speaking at the inaugural function of interactive session with auto service providers organised by Manipal University, District Police, Regional Transport Office and Autorickshaw Unions, here. Mr. Annamalai said that there were a lot of complaints of rude behaviour and overcharging of students of other States by the autorickshaw drivers here. Surveys had shown that wherever pre-paid services were in operation, it had benefited the passengers and the drivers.

After all, the students from the educational institutions in Manipal mostly had fixed points to go to such as railway station and KSRTC bus-stand to their educational institutions and from their educational institutions to their hostels. Hence, the autorickshaw owners and operators themselves should sit together and decided on their pre-paid fares.
